The south is a BIG region, the states in the South are: Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Texas, Tennessee, Kentucky and Louisiana. To see a map of the South Region, click here.

The climate in the South varies. The summers are very hot and sometimes they can be very wet with hurricanes and thunderstorms. Most states in the South do not get snow in the winter, their winters are mild with temperatures ranging from 40 to 60 degrees. If there was one word to describe the southern climate it would be humid. To see a map of tempratures click here.

There are only a few major land forms in the south. The most well known feature is the Appalachian Mountians. They run through South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, and parts of Virginia and Kentucky. The two major rivers are the Mississippi River, the Ohio River.  A land form unique to the south is the Bayou. A Bayou is a salt water river that goes in land. Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida all have bayous. There are also a lot of great beaches in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina.
